My daughter S'ari had been having a hard time with schoolwork. Unbeknownst to me, S’ari had poor working memory, which made it difficult for her to learn phonics, because she couldn’t remember all of the components that went into sounding out words. I couldn’t understand why she couldn’t remember the things she had just been told moments ago, especially patterns. She was in 3rd grade and she had only mastered 1st and very few 2nd grade level words.
At the referral of a good friend, I learned about the Oakland Scottish Rite Language Center. We jumped right in, and S’ari participated in the Interactive Metronome and Fast Forward programs. S’ari had to relearn to listen to finite sounds and identify and match them. This helped her brain learn to refocus.
Thanks to the Fast Forward program, S’ari has mastered all of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade reading levels and is now reading at the 4th grade level. I am truly amazed by this program and how it has helped push my child forward.
S’ari is now a strong, confident reader. She also loves to write pages and pages, whereas before I could barely get her to write a sentence. She volunteers to answer questions and read in class and she does homework on her own and without prompting. Every day she amazes me and I am so proud of her. Mostly, I am so proud of the decision I made to place her in the Oakland Scottish Rite Language Center program. I would recommend this program to anyone whose child is having difficulty mastering reading.
